TOMORROW'S UNCERTAINTY

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
—Proverbs 27:1

WE DON’T KNOW a lot about the future but we do know one thing: it is uncertain.

The Christian, however, actually knows something else. The Christian knows that no matter what tomorrow brings, God will be there. Jesus promised: "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13: 5). That means that if pain or sorrow or tragedy comes tomorrow, you'll be able to see it through because the Lord will be with you.

GOD’S WILL IS TOMORROW’S UNKNOWN FACTOR.

James tells us that it is not wrong to make plans, but when we make them, we need to make them with a contingency factor. "Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit;' whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that’” (James 4: 13-15).

"If the Lord wills." The way to take the uncertainty out of tomorrow and bring in certainty is to trust it to Him. Believe that God loves you and has a plan for your life. Trust that He is with you regardless of what comes—and leave yourself open to be directed and guided by Him.

Father, we thank You that Your hand is upon the circumstances surrounding our lives. Help us, Lord, to take You into consideration in all of the plans that we make.

In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen.
