THE RICHES OF HIS GRACE

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

— 2 Corinthians 8:9

WHO COULD possibly estimate the riches of God? In Psalm 50:10 He tells us: “Every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.” But that is just to give us a picture we can understand. The truth is, the whole universe and everything in it belongs to Him. And if that weren’t enough, He is able to speak a billion more universes into existence, just by His word.

Jesus prayed: “Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was” (John 17:5). All God’s riches are shared with His Son, and yet for your sake, He became poor. He left the place of glory where He was exalted and adored, and allowed Himself to be born in a stable, born to poor parents, born in obscurity. He came knowing He would wander the earth as an adult, owning nothing, though it all technically belonged to Him.

THE RICHES JESUS DESIRES TO SHARE WITH YOU ARE ETERNAL RICHES, WHICH CANNOT BE MEASURED BY TEMPORAL THINGS LIKE GOLD OR SILVER.

Peter describes these riches as “an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith…” (1 Peter 1:4-5).

Some riches are waiting for us in heaven. Some are available today: abundant joy, unending mercy, the peace of Christ, righteousness, hope, and love.

Thank You, Father, for the beautiful riches we experience each day as we walk in love with You.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
