...our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel...
— 2 Timothy 1:10
ONE THING you can say about death is that it is certain. Thus far, the statistics have been impressive: 100 out of every 100 have died. But here is an interesting phenomenon: if you are born once, you will die twice; if you have been born twice, you will only die once.
At our physical death, we will be changed. We will undergo a metamorphosis. That is necessary, because right now we exist in corruptible bodies. But in order to exist in heaven, we need incorruptible bodies. And when these tents are dissolved, when our bodies go back to dust, we will enter our eternal existence with God. What a glorious promise! What a blessed hope!
OUR ETERNITY WITH GOD—WHAT A GLORIOUS PROMISE!
One of these days you may pick up a paper and read that “Chuck Smith, pastor of Calvary Chapel has died.” Don’t you believe it! If you see that, know with certainty that I didn’t die—I simply moved out of an old, worn out tent and into a beautiful mansion, “a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” (2 Corinthians 5:1). So please don’t weep for me because you know I won’t be weeping. “In His presence is fullness of joy; at His right hand are pleasures for evermore” (Psalm 16.11).
God wants to have fellowship with you, and He sent His Son to abolish death in order that you might have eternal life and immortality through Him. And that’s the gospel truth.
Father, thank You for that life and immortality that is ours through Jesus Christ. We pray for those who don’t know You and ask that You will speak to their hearts.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
